Hush is a light, an intimate space, and an acoustic device. Hung over a meeting table, task desk or restaurant bar, Hush is ideal for reducing noise and improving the acoustics of a space.

It was designed for PLN by David Trubridge Design Studio in New Zealand, the designer known for his leading work in sustainable design. Hush is innovative in its mix of acoustic property and eco-friendly design - thanks to both the material used and flat delivery for assembly, allowing lower carbon footprint

collection

The lights are produced in the PLN workshops in New Zealand. Hush is available in 4 sizes and a large variety of colors. It is available with LED or E26 luminaire (bulb) or without lighting (lampshade).

concept

Hard, dense surfaces (glass, concrete, etc.)
in modern offices and restaurants often reflect sound and make it appear louder. Hush’s lightweight, semi-rigid acoustic panels soften sound and reduce reverberations through the absorption of certain frequencies (mainly mid
to higher frequencies), which then leave a room with much more comfortable sound level without eliminating noise completely.

The lights are large enveloping canopies that contain a constellation of LED lights inside the top. Underneath, sound is muted by the absorbent synthetic felt panels that are made from 100% polyester fibres (including a minimum of 65% post-consumer recycled material) which can be recycled again after easy dismantling. The material is safe, non-toxic, non-irritant, non-allergic and fire rated to ISO 9705. Although the lights are large they are transported in kitset form. The interlocking shapes are very easily assembled with minimal connectors and no tools.

materials

The material is safe, non-toxic, non-irritant, non-allergic and fire rated to ISO 9705. Although the lights are large they are transported in kitset form. The interlocking shapes are very easily assembled with minimal connectors and no tools. The material properties strongly influenced the design of Hush. Weaving technique interlock the components in order to reduce the number of fastenings for quick assembly. This system allows for efficient kitset freighting and the overlaps improve the acoustic properties
